Debunking Car Care Myths
Misconceptions about car maintenance and repairs are being spread every single day. As a result, there are many differing opinions on how you should take care of your car. It can be tough to tell what is fact and what is a myth unless you take the time to test it out. We've seen and worked on many vehicles over the years at Taylor Co Automotive. We have the truth, and we're here to set the record straight on the most common misconceptions regarding your vehicle.
If you have any concerns about your car, SUV, or truck, our team at Taylor Co Automotive is happy to address those with you. We invite you to give us a call or bring your vehicle into our shop today! Feel free to use our online appointment form for easy scheduling.
Myth #1: An oil change is needed every 3,000 miles.
Your oil change intervals depend on your vehicle and manufacturer's standards, not the number of miles you've driven since the last change. It also depends on how you handle your vehicle and the type of oil your car demands (synthetic, semi-synthetic, or conventional).Myth #2: Instead of just replacing one tire when it is damaged, your mechanic should replace all four simultaneously.
You should keep in mind that tires can often be patched up instead of replaced unless the damage is significant. If the tire needs replacing, as long as the tires are the same brand, model, and size, it's perfectly acceptable to swap out one at a time. However, it is typically recommended to replace them together for your convenience.Myth #3: Premium gas will heighten your engine's performance.
Premium gas undoubtedly has a heftier price tag than regular and mid-grade, but using it does not warrant that it will boost performance. Premium fuel is only fitting for cars with engines that have a high compression ratio. Nevertheless, you should always choose the appropriate fuel grade stated in your vehicle's owner's manual.Myth #4: Filling up your gas tank in the morning will save you money on gas.
Because gasoline expands with warmth, some drivers believe that pouring warm fuel into your car means you're getting less fuel. So, filling up in cooler morning temperatures would mean more gasoline (right?). Not exactly. People tend to forget that gasoline is typically stored underground, which insulates it against temperature changes. Ultimately, it does not matter what time of day you refuel.
